This project was for my college video editing class. The assignment was to select and cut multiple clips into a commercial for a business or product. Using a compilation of hand picked stock footage from Envato, I created a commercial for a fictional waterpark. I chose to do a waterpark because I wanted something colorful and friendly. My intended audience would be families along with younger people looking for something to do during summer. I also added stock music and sound effects to create an upbeat feel that matched the video.
When coming up with the name and logo, I began by brainstorming animations I could make to match it as I knew I wanted to incorporate one. The first thing that came to mind was a splash, so I decided to base the waterpark name off that concept and start the animation.
I chose the font because it is wavy and conveys movement similar to water. It is also fun and friendly which was the intended feel for the video. I wanted the word waterpark to be bold yet still playful so I chose a thick font similar to ones I’ve seen used for waterparks to create contrast. I think the wavy font and shape makes the simplicity of the two letters effective and interesting to look at even though it is minimalistic.
